After hosting hundreds of fall visitors along the Grand Strand from Myrtle Beach to Georgetown, I can tell you this: September through November is absolutely the best time to experience South Carolina’s coast.

You’ve got perfect 70-80 degree weather, incredible festivals in Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet, stunning fall events at Brookgreen Gardens, and those magical Garden City Beach sunsets without summer crowds.

I’ve attended every major Grand Strand fall festival from Little River ShrimpFest to Nights of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens, and honestly, autumn might be the perfect time to visit Myrtle Beach area attractions.

Here’s my complete insider guide to the best fall events in Myrtle Beach, Garden City Beach, Surfside Beach, Murrells Inlet, and beyond, plus exactly where to stay so you’re minutes from all the Grand Strand action.

Why Grand Strand Fall Events Beat Summer: Perfect Weather & No Crowds

Look, I love Myrtle Beach summers as much as anyone, but Grand Strand fall festivals?

That’s when the South Carolina coast really shines. You’ve got ideal 70-80 degree days perfect for outdoor events like Little River ShrimpFest and Atalaya Arts Festival, way fewer crowds at popular spots like Brookgreen Gardens and Murrells Inlet MarshWalk, and Garden City Beach oceanfront accommodations at prices that won’t break the bank.

Plus, you can actually get restaurant reservations during Myrtle Beach festival weekends, parking doesn’t require a treasure hunt at popular Surfside Beach and Garden City Beach spots, and you can enjoy those gorgeous Grand Strand sunrises from your oceanfront balcony without the summer humidity.

Quick planning note:

Event dates can shift, so always double-check the official websites I’ve linked below before you book. Trust me, I learned this the hard way!

September 2025: Grand Strand Fall Events

Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival — September 26-28, 2025 (Huntington Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet)

This is one of my favorite Grand Strand events. You’re literally inside a historic castle at Huntington Beach State Park, browsing work from over 100 juried artists. The setting is incredible—combine it with a beach walk or Brookgreen Gardens visit for the perfect day.

What to expect: Live music, gourmet food vendors, and art ranging from pottery to paintings. It’s a 10-minute drive from Garden City Beach oceanfront accommodations, and you can easily spend a full day between the Atalaya festival and the beautiful Huntington Beach State Park.

Irish Italian International Festival — September 27, 2025 (North Myrtle Beach)

A fantastic one-day North Myrtle Beach street festival on Main Street with free admission. Great live music, vendors, and food—perfect if you’re staying in Garden City Beach and want to explore the northern Grand Strand attractions.

Myrtle Beach Bike Week Fall Rally — September 29 - October 5, 2025

If you’re planning Grand Strand fall vacation accommodations, know that the first week of October brings thousands of motorcycles to Myrtle Beach and the entire Grand Strand. The energy is incredible, but book Garden City Beach oceanfront rentals and Myrtle Beach hotels early! Motorcycle rally weeks fill up fast.

October 2025: Peak Grand Strand Fall Festival Season

Brookgreen Gardens Fall Events: Harvest Home Weekend — October 4-5, 2025 (Murrells Inlet)

Perfect family-friendly Grand Strand fall event with pumpkin patches, scarecrow building, hay mazes, all set in the world-famous Brookgreen Gardens. If you’re staying in Garden City Beach vacation rentals, this is literally 10 minutes away and makes for a perfect autumn afternoon.

Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon & Coastal 5K — October 11, 2025

Even if you’re not a runner, the finish line festival is fun to check out. The half marathon route has incredible coastal views—I’ve watched from various Grand Strand spots over the years.

Little River ShrimpFest — October 11-12, 2025

This is absolutely a must-do Grand Strand fall festival. Two days of waterfront seafood, live music on two stages, over 100 vendors, and some of the best shrimp you’ll ever taste in South Carolina. Easy 20-minute drive north from Garden City Beach accommodations, and you can make a whole day of exploring Little River’s waterfront attractions.

Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art — October 2-18, 2025 (select dates)

A multi-week concert and culinary series at The Reserve Club. Check the specific dates for your visit, some incredible performances if the timing works out.

Halloween on the MarshWalk — October 31, 2025 (Murrells Inlet)

The famous Murrells Inlet MarshWalk knows how to celebrate Halloween right. Family-friendly early evening Grand Strand entertainment, then it gets lively for adults later. Great costumes, live music, and those beautiful Murrells Inlet waterfront views. Just 5 minutes from Garden City Beach vacation rentals.

November 2025: Holiday Season Begins!!!!!!!

Taste of the Town — November 4, 2025 (Myrtle Beach Convention Center)

Myrtle Beach’s biggest culinary event! Dozens of local restaurants all in one place. Go hungry and plan to sample everything. I’ve been going for years and there’s always something new to discover.

Murrells Inlet Oyster Roast — November 8, 2025

All-you-can-eat oysters right on the MarshWalk at Wicked Tuna’s waterfront lot. Live music, local crowd, and the kind of authentic Grand Strand experience you can’t get at tourist spots. Book early!! This one fills up!!

Georgetown Wooden Boat Show — October 18-19, 2025

I’m including this October event here because it’s worth the 30-minute drive south from Garden City Beach. Over 100 wooden boats, live demonstrations, family activities, and historic Georgetown is beautiful to explore.

Dickens Christmas Show & Festivals — November 13-16, 2025 (Myrtle Beach)

Kick off the holiday season early with Victorian-themed shopping and décor at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Great way to get some holiday shopping done while enjoying your Grand Strand getaway.

Nights of a Thousand Candles — Late November through December (Brookgreen Gardens)

This is the Grand Strand’s most magical holiday event and South Carolina’s premier light display. Millions of lights and hand-lit candles throughout Brookgreen Gardens! It starts November 28, 2025 and continues on select evenings through December.

Critical booking tip: Buy Nights of a Thousand Candles tickets as soon as they go on sale. Popular Grand Strand holiday event nights sell out quickly, and this is one Myrtle Beach area attraction you absolutely don’t want to miss.

My Grand Strand Fall Festival Planning Tips (From Years of Hosting Experience)

Location is Everything for Grand Strand Events: Garden City Beach is your perfect home base for fall festivals. You’re minutes from the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk (where multiple events happen), 10 minutes to Brookgreen Gardens, easy access to all Myrtle Beach attractions, and a quick drive to Little River or Georgetown. Plus, you get that peaceful Grand Strand oceanfront setting when you want to escape the festival crowds.

Mix Grand Strand Festival Days with Beach Days: Don’t pack every day with events. Some of my best Grand Strand fall memories are those quiet mornings with coffee on a Garden City Beach oceanfront balcony, afternoon pier walks, or sunset seafood dinners at the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk between festival weekends.

Book October Grand Strand Accommodations Early: Little River ShrimpFest weekend, Brookgreen Gardens fall events, and any weekend with good weather can fill up fast. Garden City Beach oceanfront vacation rentals especially go quickly because experienced Grand Strand visitors know the value.

Grand Strand Fall Weather Strategy: Pack layers! October and November Grand Strand weather is generally perfect for outdoor festivals, but you might get a cool evening or surprise shower. Always ideal South Carolina coastal weather for beach walks and outdoor events, though.
